Motorists moving from diesel

Four in ten motorists are planning to buy a hybrid electric or full electric vehicle their next time around, writes Brian Byrne. That's the indication from a survey commissioned by Toyota Ireland.

The results suggest that 29pc of respondents plan to go for a hybrid electric and 12pc for full EVs, while 22pc will go for petrol and just 15pc will opt for diesel. The balance of respondents are noted as 'unsure'.

The survey was undertaken as part of Toyota Ireland's 'Make the Move' advertising campaign, aimed at encouraging motorists to shift away from diesel cars.

According to Cartell car history specialists, some 1.4 million diesel cars are currently registered in Ireland.
