Taxi drivers snapping up new Nissan LEAF for €1,995

Taxi drivers can buy a new Nissan LEAF electric car for just €1,995, due to a Government grant scheme and a new Nissan trade-in booster, writes Trish Whelan.

This has been made possible with the Government’s eSPSV grant which covers €20,000 of the cost of buying an EV as a taxi, and Nissan’s new €6,500 trade-in booster offer for their LEAF buyers. The grants are designed to assist taxi drivers to transition to electric vehicles.

Nissan is also extending the €6,500 trade-in booster offer to private car owners who automatically qualify for the Government’s EV grant of €3,500. That amounts to a saving of €10,000 on a new Nissan LEAF bringing the start price to €21,995 for private owners.

Dublin taxi driver, Paul Clooney (pictured) traded in his LEAF taxi having clocked up over 300,000kms over the past six years with his 40kWh battery car. He paid €3,900 for the higher specced LEAF car. Paul is currently ranked Number 1 in Ireland and in the Top 5 in the world by Nissan for 'Distance travelled in a Nissan LEAF'.

Nissan's €6,500 trade in booster is available to all customers, taxi and private car owners alike, who want to switch into a Nissan LEAF up to 30 July.
