Hyundai have set a Guinness World Record with an Ioniq 5 by driving it from India's highest road, Umling La in Leh Ladakh in the Himalayas located 5,799 metres above sea level, to Kuttanad, Kerala, located three metres below sea level, writes Brian Byrne. The two-week trip covered 4,956km, and charging was by public fast chargers in various cities along the route.
The Ioniq 5 was charged 26 times during the whole journey, and the vehicle had only the standard 72.6kWh battery. A public slow charger had to be used only once through the trip, which cost the team an extra day.
Umling La is claimed to be the highest motorable pass in the world.
