Managing fleet transitions to EV

With the 'future' of electric vehicle technology already here today, an Irish company is offering a one-stop service for fleet users who need advice and management for their transition, writes Brian Byrne. GEV Technologies is a Wicklow-based company with a strong portfolio of big-name fleet clients already using its expertise.

Management of vehicles’ charging is a key part of the service, both on-site and in external locations that include home charging for operators who bring their vehicles home.

The overall services package, in what the company calls the GEV Advantage, can include advice on selecting suitable electric vehicles for the client's needs, after an appropriate period of observation of how the current fleet is used.

A major element of the GEV Advantage is the ability for GEV Technologies to manage home charging for client employees so that their vehicle charging electricity bill is calculated and paid directly by GEV Technologies, who then, in turn, invoice the employer, allowing for better and more efficient control of charging costs.

A GEV charge and fuel card is usable at most public chargers in Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK.

The service also provides real-time data on every vehicle in the client's fleet, including time on the road, distances travelled, number of journeys and energy used.

Overall, the company can cover anything from design, operation, maintenance, support and payment for fleets, businesses and large properties.

GEV Technologies won an EV Industry Award in 2024 and 2025 for the Best Billing & Payment System for Fleets. CEO John Shiels says his company is dedicated to helping enterprises of all sizes make the transition to EV seamlessly and turn the shift to electrification into a strategic advantage.
