Daimler name returning

by Brian Byrne. A long-wheelbase version of the Jaguar XJ will bring back the Daimler name to the company's showrooms from the autumn.

The name was dropped from the carmaker's range three years ago, but the new model will debut at Frankfurt in September.

It will have a different grille and more luxury wood and leather trim, and will be substantially more expensive than the equivalent Jaguar.

Jaguar bought out the Daimler brand in 1960.
