by Brian Byrne. Although almost 16,000 Renault Modus models were sold across Europe in May, the 82,601 cumulative for the first five months of 2005 indicates that the model is selling much less successfully than anticipated.
The manufacturing plant at Valladolid in Spain has a capacity of 300,000 units a year, and last year was refitted to build Modus cars only.
But now Renault is considering re-introducing the Clio model to the factory, in its Mk III form, in order to maintain viable output levels from the facility.
Clio III goes on sale in a number of European markets - including Ireland - in the autumn, following its official public launch at the September Frankfurt Motor Show.
