Chinese 'Opel' not for Ireland

by Brian Byrne. Plans by some Opel dealers on mainland Europe to sell a Chinese-built SUV based on the old Opel Frontera are not likely to be copied in Ireland because no RHD versions will be available.

The Landwind, which has a Mitsubishi engine, is projected to sell in Europe at about half the cost of the new GM-Daewoo SUV which will be sold as an Opel soon.

The Landwind is being imported by a Dutch car dealer, Peter Bijvelds. He has already lined up Opel dealers in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, and is talking with others in Spain and Italy.
