BMW is July CO2 sales winner

The biggest winner in the first month of the new CO2 car taxation regime was BMW, in sales percentage terms.

An analysis of the top ten passenger car brands in terms of unit sales shows that the prestige German carmaker registered a third of its 4,928 cars sold in the first seven months of 2008 during July.

The company placed a strong emphasis on the fact that its diesel cars were reduced significantly in price with the CO2 changes.

Using the same analysis, Audi comes second, with more than one in five of its 4,275 cars to date in 2008 being sold in July.

Peugeot comes third, also with one in five sales taking place during July. Nissan was fourth (12.3 percent of 10,752) and Ford fifth (11.6 percent of 17,563).

In total car sales since January 1, Toyota leads with 20,093, followed by Ford (17,563), VW (14,842), Opel (11,719) and Nissan (10,752).
