Eye details on new licences

New EU driving licences to be introduced in 2011 will include details of a driver’s eyecare prescription, where there is one.

The legislation will also force drivers to have eye examinations once every five years for a commercial licence and once every ten to 15 years for a private licence.

Under current law in Germany, Italy and Spain, drivers who wear glasses or contact lenses are required to carry a spare pair with them when driving.
