New Accord, Jazz, launched

It is an admittedly sombre time in the motor business in Ireland, but cars still must be launched, and Honda Ireland has just put on the market its eighth generation Accord and second generation Jazz.

The segments they are in represent 20 percent and 17 percent of the market respectively, and both cars are up against strong opposition. The Accord, in line with the outgoing car's target of being an 'Alternative Premium' contender, is targeted at the Audi A4, Saab 9-3, BMW 3-Series and VW Passat.

The new Accord is larger in many respects, with more width inside. The power options are 2.0 petrol and 2.2 diesel, in a price range between E32,500-E43,695. This represents a markedly more competitive realignment of pricing desite a significant upgrade in specification.

Both engines, of 156hp and 150hp respectively, have been extensively revised and provide more power as well as better fuel consumption with lower emissions. The CO2 range is 157-187 g/km.

The Jazz, which has turned out to be Honda's most successful global car, comes initially with 1.2 and 1.4 petrol engines. The price range, with the inclusion of a six-speed automatede manual in the lineup, is E16,295-E20,390.

The already very clever packaging of the Jazz has been even further evolved, with greater room and storage options inside despite a very similar exterior size. The specification includes curtain airbags as standard.
