It really is cheaper to ferry

Irish Ferries have rolled back the years with the revelation that a fare on their Ireland-France ferry service can be purchased today at a price lower than 20 years ago.

In 1989 the fare for a car plus four passengers cost IR£290 one way including berths. Now, two decades later, a 2009 fare which offers the same travel from Rosslare to France can be had for €274 one way including a four-berth cabin, an amount equivalent to IR£216 in old money.

Commenting, their head of sales Declan Mescall said ‘aside from this fare comparison, an added benefit is seen in the fact that, today, passengers travel on our new cruise ferry ‘Oscar Wilde’ and enjoy a higher level of luxury than was available 20 years ago.
