Mini Convertible debut

BMW’s Mini got off to a warm-weather start -- or the expectation of it -- with the launch of the new generation Mini Convertible at the North American Auto Show in Detroit this week.

Those attending also get to see the Mini E, an electrically powered version which is destined for California initially. There are no public plans to bring it back to Europe.

Out of a total production volume of some 164,000 Mini Convertibles in the first generation, more than 37,000 units - about 24 per cent - were sold in the United States.
