BMW to show WSB bike

BMW Motorrad will compete for the first time ever in the World Superbike Championship (WSB) in March of this year. To celebrate this BMW Ireland will preview one of the first S1000RR Superbikes ever produced to the Irish public at The Carole Nash Irish Motorbike & Scooter Show, in the RDS Dublin February 27-March 1.

To compete in the WSB all entrants must put the bikes that are been raced into general production. The racing bikes will be fairly close to serial production models allowing for the greater audience identification with the sport.

The S1000RR has a 999cc inline 4-cylinder engine which is very compact and light and produces about 200bhp. The dry weight of the motorcycle is 183 kg which is achieved through its light carbonfibre bodywork, aluminium beam frame and innovative design.

The serial production machine BMW S1000RR will be presented to the public in the early summer of 2009 but can already be ordered in dealerships.
