This coming March the Carole Nash Irish Motorbike and Scooter Show is returning to Dublin’s RDS, from the 3rd until the 5th.

With over 120 exhibitors and a host of live action, it’s a must for all two- and three-wheel enthusiasts.

The show has been running since 2003. This year’s event promises more excitement and fun than ever.

Ireland’s leading motorbike insurance brokers Carole Nash, has announced it will sponsor Ireland’s biggest motorbike and scooter show.

Global launch for Irish electric motorbike manufacturer

Europe's newest electric motorcycle and scooter manufacturer, Volt Motorcycles, will unveil five new models at the Carole Nash Irish Motorbike & Scooter Show at the RDS in Dublin this coming weekend (February 27 - March 1), writes Trish Whelan.

Volt Motorcycles, based in Co Wexford, is Ireland's first manufacturer of electric motorcycles and scooters and one of just a handful of independent producers around the world. The company has chosen the Carole Nash Irish Motorbike & Scooter Show at the RDS to host the world première of their complete range - comprising five new models.

Road-racing legends for Irish Motorbike and Scooter Show

Organisers of the Carole Nash Irish Motorbike and Scooter Show have announced that motorcycle racing legends John McGuinness and Michael Dunlop will head a line-up of established and rising stars attending the Show at the RDS in Dublin over the weekend of the 27 February to 1 March.

Michael Dunlop will officially open the show on Friday afternoon, while John McGuinness will make his first ever public appearances in Dublin when he appears on the NorthWest200 stand to meet his fans on Saturday and Sunday.

Ruth Lemass, event organiser, stated: “Having the Dunlop family represented by Michael Dunlop at the show alongside one of the most successful ever road-racing and TT riders, John McGuinness, presents an amazing opportunity for visitors to get up close and find out what makes these men tick.”

The line up of Irish champions at the show will include Brian McCormack and Derek Sheils, both former Irish & Adelaide Superbike champions, former senior support road racing champion Alan Bonner, triple Manx GP winner Michael 'Micko' Sweeney and many, many more.

BMW Motorrad to launch S1000RR Superbike at RDS show

Here's news for readers who are also motorbike fans.

BMW Motorrad is to introduce its new 2015 models to the Irish public for the first time at the Carole Nash Irish Motorbike and Scooter Show which takes place from 27 February to 1 March this year in the RDS, Dublin.

Ruth Lemass, event organiser says "There are numerous never before seen motorcycles on view at the show this year and I have no doubt that the draw of a class leading superbike will be a major attraction for many visitors."

The 2015 BMW S1000RR Superbike 'surpasses all expectations' and comes with several riding mode options to cater for all conditions, including rain, sport, race and even slick! ABS and automatic stability control are standard. The new one-litre superbike will have cruise control, a first in the superbike class.

It will be available in racing red and light white, black storm metallic, and the traditional blue and white BMW Motorsport colours.

Motorbike show an exhibitor sellout

The organisers of the 2015 Carole Nash Irish Motorbike and Scooter Show have had to add another hall to the event at the RDS, writes Brian Byrne.

Slated for six weeks' time, beginning 27 February, there has been a record interest from exhibitors for the Show, which is expected to attract up to 27,000 visitors.

The organisers say hundreds of trade stands have already been booked, and the number of bikes which will be on display is in the thousands.

They say that the prospect of better economic times has encouraged participation in an industry which was particularly badly hit in the recession.

In addition to exhibition stands, attractions will include the AMD World Custom Bike Building Competition, and the Ace Global Stunt Starz group.

Many bike racing heroes will be on hand to meet their fans.

Bike manufacturers exhibiting include BMW, Ducati, Harley Davidson, KTM, Suzuki, Triumph, Yamaha, and Volt.

One of the major launches will be the new S1000RR Superbike from BMW Motorrad.

Bikes, Fun and High Octane Entertainment

Up to 27,000 motorbike enthusiasts from all over Ireland will be revving up and heading for Dublin for the Carole Nash Irish Motorbike & Scooter Show in the RDS from 27 February to 1 March this year.

The event, now in its ninth year, is the largest gathering of every marque of motorbike and scooter for sale in Ireland.

The show also offers many other attractions like high octane live entertainment, demo races, interviews with racing stars, accessory sales, motorcycle lifestyle fashion shows, custom bikes, stunt riders, and competitions.

The event will feature several first unveilings to the Irish public and is sponsored by motorbike insurance specialists Carole Nash.

A new AMD World Champion

An Irish bike has won the AMD World Championship in Germany, writes Trish Whelan.

Held for the first time in Europe, at the Big Bike Europe Expo in Essen, the Championship showcased the best in designs for motorcycles, scooters, trikes and sidecar outfits.

Thousands of entrants from around the world went through a series of qualifiers and were eventually whittled down to 122 machines representing 23 countries.

The 2013 AMD World Championship title was taken by Ireland's Medaza Cycles' creation 'Rondine' (pictured above). Don Cronin and Michael O'Shea, the two Irish men responsible for the build created a one-off frame to carry the single-cylinder, 1971 Moto Guzzi Nuovo Falcone 500 engine.

The Irish duo qualified for the competition by taking top honours at the international open qualifiers at the 2013 Carole Nash Irish Motorcycle and Scooter Show in Dublin last March.

Another Irishman, Noel Connolly from Galway (pictured right), took 16th place in the Freestyle Class with his sidecar outfit called The Chieftan.

The Carole Nash Irish Motorbike and Scooter Show takes place this weekend from Friday 1 March through to Sunday 3rd March in the Main RDS buildings and outside arenas.

Attractions include the launch of the World's first smart phone app that will connect the motorcyle community online; BMW, Triumph, Honda, Ducati amongst others will unveil new bikes to the Irish public for the first time at the show; the Ireland's got Biking Talent competition; enjoy the antics of many famous stunt riders and personalities, as well as the Wall of Death, karts, etc.

Public opening hours are from 3.00 - 9.30pm; on Saturday from 10.00am - 6.00pm; and on Sunday from 10.30am - 6.00pm.

Ireland's got Biking Talent

For the first time amateur bike builders will get to showcase their emerging talents alongside professional custom bike builders by entering the Carole Nash inspired Ireland's Got Biking Talent competition.

Ruth Lemass, from event organiser SDL Exhibitions, says custom bike building has become an art form in itself over the years and gifted amateurs never get the chance to showcase their talents in a public forum. "We wanted to give them an opportunity to display their skills and fantastic achievements to the largest gathering of bike lovers in the country. Running this alongside the international qualifier for the AMD World Championships puts them centre stage."

All entrants to the amateur competition will be short-listed by a panel of judges but will face the ultimate test in a public internet vote to choose the winning bikes. The top 12 successful designs, including the winners, will be displayed alongside the professionally constructed custom bikes partaking in the International World qualifier of the AMD Custom Bike Building Competition which takes place at the RDS, Dublin from 1-3 March, 2013.

The Irish AMD winner will fly the flag for Ireland and compete against over 100 other top builders from around the globe for the title. The finals take place at The Big Bike Europe show in Essen, Germany in May but they will each get a cash prize of €3,000 and €1,000 worth of Zodiac products.

The Carole Nash Irish Motorbike and Scooter Show is the largest gathering of motorbikes and scooters under one roof in Ireland and features displays with features for all the family.

Route 66 Challenge off on September 20

The 6th trip by the Irish Route 66ers sets off on September 20 to once again ride down the iconic American highway from Chicago to Santa Monica on the Pacific Ocean.

The Route 66 Challenge event has been run every two years since 2002 and takes in 4,000km of the old route, raising money for Temple Street Childrens Hospital.

Past Challenges have raised a combined €3m which has been used in the refurbishment of the Accident/Emergency Unit, the Renal Unit, the purchase of a new CT Scanner and the building of a dedicated isolation unit for Cystic Fibrosis.

The participants this year hope to raise a further €300,000.

'Dream' motorcycles fundraiser

Geraldine O’Callaghan, last woman standing on The Apprentice Series 2, recently launched the ‘Live the Dream’ national draw to raise up to €70,000 for Temple Street Hospital.

The top prize is a choice of a Harley Davidson Electra Glide or a Honda Goldwing—both ultimate dream machines with a value of €28,000.

Keen motorcyclist Martin Breen has organised the draw where tickets are €50 each. The draw is limited to 1,500 tickets and hopes to raise close to €70,000 for Temple Street. Further prizes include €2,000 cash, Glens of Scotland Motorcycle tour for two, Bike world voucher for €600, and shopping voucher for €400 and driving lessons.

Motorcycle Show in March

The Carole Nash Irish Motorbike & Scooter Show will run from March 4-6 at the RDS in DUblin.

The event will feature new product launches, the latest accessories, the latest fashions and much more. There will also be interviews with top motorbike racers, ‘Babe of the Year’ contestants, AMD World custom bike building competition qualifier and the death-defying feats by one of the world's last Walls of Death.

Superbike action this weekend

The third event of the 2010 Mondello Superbike Championship moves the new series on to the County Kildare circuit's International track layout for the first time, writes Fergus Brennan, with two days of action this coming weekend (August 7/8).

The Leinster Motor Club run event will feature rounds six, seven and eight of the new series with the races having double the importance as they will also count towards the ISB championship for the first time. Sunday's Grand Final will be for the Leinster 200 Trophy and the winner will also ride away with the top prize of €1,500.

All of the classes will race three times over the weekend with qualifying and the first race taking place on Saturday. Sunday's programme will see the remaining two races per class run off, with the third race for Superbikes and Supersport and the Grand Final as the features. The headline acts will race between 14:00 and 16:00 with pre race grid interviews and podium presentations as part of the show.

Alongside the Superbikes and Supersport the remaining races will be made up of a combined grid of 125cc and 250cc two-strokes, Sidecars, Lightweight Supersport, the combined Pre '97 and Supertwin machines and the 'B' races for Superbike and Supersport Cup riders. Motorcycle Expo this weekend

The first ever 'Mondello Motorcycle Expo', in association with the Sunday World, takes place at the county Kildare motorsport venue this Sunday.

The main exhibition area will house the latest offerings from motorcycle manufacturers BMW Motorrad, Yamaha, Ducati and Triumph as well as a host of other motorcycling suppliers and traders. Also exhibiting will be motorcycle clubs, owners clubs, custom bikes, show bikes, race organising clubs and a number of feature displays. Anyone arriving on a road bike can also enter the 'Bike of the Show' competition by putting their bike on display in the paddock area.

The live action will alternate between the main Mondello Park circuit and the venue's off-road course. The circuit will be the arena for activities ranging from Gary Rothwell's stunt show which includes him leaping from his bike to be dragged along behind it at over 80 mph, to parade laps for classic race and road bikes.

Racing fans will be catered for with two invitation races for up to 1000cc bikes as well as a display of Minimoto racing. Motorcycle Drag Racing will make its first appearance at the circuit also. Among the numerous other features will be a custom bike build, a wheelie machine where show visitors can learn to wheelie and all of the major road race organising clubs.

Adult admission to the Mondello Motorcycle Expo is €15, and under-sixteens will be admitted free of charge. MCUI competition licence holders will be admitted for €10. For further information see www.mondellopark.ie.

Honda launches DC trans for bikes

Honda has developed an innovative dual clutch transmission for motorcycles.

The six-speed transmission offers a manual gearchange option by hand rather than the traditional left foot, as well as a fully automatic operation in both Comfort and Sport modes.

The system is being introduced in mid-June on the VFR1200FD, at £13,175 in the UK.

Ducati joins Mondello Expo grid

With less than three weeks to go to the first ever Mondello Motorcycle Expo the already impressive show line-up has been further boosted by confirmation that Ducati will join Yamaha, Triumph and BMW Motorrad, in exhibiting their latest road bike offerings. Star of the Ducati stand will be the eagerly awaited Multistrada 1200 which is billed by Ducati as their first 'Four in One' motorcycle.
Mondello's Motorcycle Expo is the Kildare circuits first Motorcycle Show and Ireland's first Live Action Bike Expo.

The show will combine a full day of track and off-road action covering all aspects of Motorcycling and Motorcycle Sport in Ireland. Alongside a pair of invitation Superbike races, the sport will be represented by Motorcycling Ireland and all of the country's top road and circuit race organisers, including representatives of the Ulster Grand Prix. Motocross, Drag Racing, Minimoto Racing and Trials Riding will also use the event to showcase their branches of the sport through live demonstrations and paddock displays.

The number of exhibitors has been growing steadily since the show was announced, both for the road and off-road sections of the show. Bike Buyers Guide is the latest to confirm their participation with the popular publication set to display one of the world’s toughest motorcycles. Philip Noone's Dakar Rally machine will make its first public appearance, along with its rider, with the bike still in the condition in which it completed the gruelling 2010 event complete with a coating of Argentinean sand.

Additional attractions have also been confirmed including two opportunities for spectators to test their own motorcycling abilities in the name of charity. A wheelie simulator will give riders the chance to attempt a wheelie, in complete safety and with a little help from an instructor if necessary, and all for a small charitable contribution. Perhaps more difficult to master will be one of the most impressive skills of the motorcycle trials rider, the ability to balance a stationery trials bike without the support of a stand. Show visitors will also be able to try their hand at this feat for a small fee.

Alongside the track action and other demonstrations Mondello Motorcycle Expo will have a paddock full of exhibitors. The side attractions will include trade stands selling everything for the motorcycle enthusiast, alongside custom, classic and show bikes and a number of feature stands.

Motorcycle Expo at Mondello

Irish Motorcycle enthusiasts will have a new form of Motorcycle show to look forward to in 2010 with the launch of the 'Mondello Motorcycle Expo'. The May 30th event will cater for all forms of motorcycling, both on and off road, with a huge emphasis on live action.

'Mondello Motorcycle Expo' will be a single day event featuring track and motocross racing, stunts, trials demonstrations, minimotos, motorcycle club parade laps and a large exhibition area. The exhibition will encompass indoor facilities including the Mondello Park hospitality suites, pit garages and motorsport museum, and outdoor display areas in the circuits paddock, perimeter and off-road areas.

Already confirmed for the expo are BMW Motorrad and Yamaha with other manufacturers to be announced. Joining them in the exhibition area will be motorcycle clubs, including road and short circuit race organisers, touring clubs and vintage and classic owners clubs. Alongside the motorcycle exhibits there will also be a substantial trade area and additional show attractions which will be announced over the coming weeks.

On track action will centre around a pair of invitation races which will include an added twist and these will be backed up by stunt riding from Gary Rothwell and some more sedate classic bike and bike owners club parade laps. Out in the Mondello Park Off-Road Centre, motocross demonstrations will take place along with quad and off-road motorcycle tests. Rounding out the action will be a trials riding demonstration and some minimoto action.

Show visitors will have a lot to keep them busy and the added attraction of the opportunity to put their own road bike, classic or custom machine on display and enter the 'Bike of the Show' competition. The event will take place from 11:00 till 17:00 with non-stop track activity. Tickets will be available on the day at a cost of €15.00 for adults with children under 16 free. In addition, MCUI competition licence holders will be entitled to a €5.00 discount on production of their current 2010 licence.

Promising helmet design

Helmets for motorcycle riding are built to protect the head from impact. But current helmets can still do little to prevent the spinal injuries that cause paralysis. For motorcyclists, this is an interesting piece in Technology Review.

Bike Fest starts

Around 3,000 visitors from across Ireland, the UK, Europe and the USA are expected to attend the third annual Ireland Bike Fest this weekend.

Supported by the Dublin and Waterford Harley-Davidson authorised dealers, the Gaelic and Celtic Thunder HOG® Chapters, and Harley-Davidson Ireland, the event promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The Bike Village, set up within the grounds of the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney, will be the main attraction for enthusiasts, with stands selling clothing, helmets and accessories.
