Since the penalties for using mobiles while driving were introduced, almost 70,000 drivers have been given points for this offence.
Five new area for penalty points will go into effect on May 1, relating to driving defective vehicles, driving a vehicle without a certificate of roadworthiness, driving without NCT, or with an unrepaired fault discovered during the NCT, and for truckers hitting bridges.
