Electric whine for Le Mans?

They said diesel would never power a full-blown race car, and then Audi changed all that. Now they're saying electricity will never win at Le Mans ... but French company GreenGT hopes to prove 'them' wrong again, by 2011.

The company has a concept Le Mans racer that runs on a pair of 100kw electric motors. With 2000Nm of torque and up to 450bhp, the company says the car will reach 100km/h in around four seconds and continue to a top speed of 270km/h.

Is the thunder of the big internal combustion engine about to die to the whine of electric motors?
