The conference in Dublin Castle was arranged jointly by the Road Safety Authority and the Health & Safety Agency.
Some 240 people from many private and public sector operators of fleets were given a number of presentations relating to the responsibilities of both employers and employees in relation to road safety in the course of their work.
New 'Driving for Work' guidelines prepared by the RSA were launched at the event, in the form of a CD-ROM.
In a presentation about the CD, Michael Rowland of the RSA noted research which suggests that people who drive company vehicles for work are up to 40 percent more likely to be involved in collisions.
He also said that the National Road Safety Strategy, if completed according to plan, will have saved 400 lives by 2012. "And at the moment the strategy is running on track," he added.
The conference also heard presentations on road safety enforcement, managing work related vehicle road risk, and driver fatigue.
