RSA launches shuttle

The Road Safety Authority has come up with a mobile road safety initiative which will travel around the country.

The ‘Road Safety Interactive Shuttle’ was launched by RSA chairman Gay Byrne in tandem with the Rose of Tralee Festival.

The ‘Shuttle’ will be on the road for 40 weeks of the year visiting towns, cities, college campuses, festivals and exhibitions throughout the country. Some of the highlights will include the Ploughing Championships and Top Gear Live! It is estimated that over 80,000 people, that’s equivalent to the total population of County Kilkenny, will pass through the ‘Road Safety Interactive Shuttle’ each year.

The system provides a fully interactive, educational road safety experience, with a fully equipped presentation area, and seating for an audience of 25 people.

There's also a driving simulator enclosed in a specially designed pod, along with a motorbike simulator, a bike simulator, and reaction timers. There are also computers equipped with the Driver Theory Test, questionnaires, interactive games, RSA website.

Exhibition areas will promote ‘themed’ road safety issues and two plasma screens will show a series of road safety advertisements and road safety programming

The Shuttle has been sponsored by Reynolds Logistics, the Government’s 'Smarter Travel' sustainable travel and transport initiative, and Westward Scania.
