Qualifying for the Masters will be on Sunday morning with thirty two competitors being given every chance to grab one of the twenty eight grid positions during an extended 30 minute session. The first of the weekend’s cash prizes will also be on offer during qualifying with €250 going to the rider who takes pole position. The main event will take place over fifteen laps of the National track at 16:00, following the completion of the two ISB races. On offer to the overall winner will be a cheque for €3,000 with awards going down to sixth place and a further €250.00 going to whoever sets the fastest lap. Dunlop will again also provide prizes to riders using their tyres, with a full set of tyres on offer to the first Dunlop rider home, a rear tyre for second and a front tyre for third.
The only man to so-far get his name on a Mondello Masters winner’s cheque has been Alastair Seeley who has been the victor in every race throughout the two seasons the series has run. Jack Kennedy stopped him taking a clean sweep in March by snatching pole position, but Seeley returned to winning ways with the race win and fastest lap to bag €3,250 by the end of the day. A win with pole and fastest lap for Seeley on Sunday would bring his total winnings to €8,750 over the two events as he would secure the €2,000 bonus for winning both 2009 Masters races.
Seeley will have plenty of opposition on Sunday, but one notable absentee from the grid will be Supersport rider Mark Pollock who suffered a massive accident in last weekend BSB Supersport race at Silverstone, leaving him with a badly damaged bike and no time to prepare for the Masters. The likes of Jack Kennedy, Marshal Neil, Gary Johnston, Brian McCormack and many other top line riders will be on the grid however and all out to stop Seeley making it five in a row. Making a guest appearance at the Masters, but unfortunately not on a bike, will be teenage sensation Josh Elliott who has been racing in the German championship this season and he will be talking to grid interviewer James Halligan before the starts of the Masters.
Running alongside the Masters will be a full ISB Championship round with qualifying and the first race for each class scheduled for Saturday. The support race action will include Superbikes, Supersport, 250GP machines, Supertwins and Sidecars. Following warm-ups in the morning the remaining two races for each class will then take place on Sunday Afternoon either side of the Mondello masters feature.
Reduced price admission to both days of this weekend’s race meeting is now available through the Mondello Park web site Special Offers page. Spectators can print a voucher directly from the site and on production of the voucher at the circuit will be admitted for €10.00 rather than the usual €15.00 adult rate.
