All new cars sold in the EU from February 2011 will have daylight running lamps.
Not just that, they will all be using the low-energy light emitting diode systems which are now seen on some upmarket cars like Audi and BMW.
The EU says research shows a 3-5 percent cut in road fatalities can be achieved just by having DRLs mandatory. In LHD countries such as Denmark, daytime accidents involving left turns were cut by 37 percent after the systems were made compulsory.
Sweden made DRLs compulsory at the end of the 70s.
