Dump the lights, get safer intersections

Six years ago the Dutch town of Drachten dumped traffic lights and signs at its busiest intersections, making all users -- motorists, pedestrians, commercial traffic -- take responsibility for themselves.

The result? The accident rate was cut by 75 percent.
