Good reaction to Budget scrappage

The Irish motor trade has responded to the announcement of a Government-backed scrappage scheme with initiatives of its own.

In addition to the state €1,500 bonus for scrapping a 10 years-plus car in favour of a new A or B Band car, Ford has matched that with a further €1,500 off its Ka. This brings the scrappage price down to €8,495.

Kia, which had already committed to a €2,000 reduction on its 1.6 cee'd, is taking a further €1,000 off for scrappage qualifying deals, bringing the scrappage price down to €16,125.

The current SIMI President Mike Finlay said the scheme will have the added benefit of improving Ireland’s environmental performance as older cars will be replaced by new environmentally friendly vehicles.

It was also welcomed by Fiat Ireland.
