Check car safety ratings: RSA

People considering buying a new car under the Government scrappage scheme shouls check out its safety rating, the Road Safety Authority says.

The RSA recommends the independent Euro New Car Assessment Programme, which rates safety aspects of new cars sold in Europe under a number of headings.

It gives each car an overall rating up to five stars, but also provides individual ratings for a number of sub-areas, including Adult Protection, Child Protection, and Pedestrian Protection. Scores are also given if ‘Safety Assist’ features are available on the car (such as speed limiters and the standard fitment of Electronic Stability Control).
