Ford best seller in 2009

Figures announced today by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) show Ford to be the leading car brand in Ireland for 2009.

With a market share of 14.1%, or 8,121 units, Ford claimed the number one position ahead of Toyota (13.2%, 7,603 units) and VW (10.7%, 6,174 units).

Total car registrations for 2009, at 57,460, were down 62% on the 2008 figure (151,616).

The Ford Focus again retained its title as Ireland’s most popular car, topping the list with sales of 2,949 units, ahead of the Toyota Avensis (2,645) and the VW Golf (2,520).

Eddie Murphy, Chairman and Managing Director of Ford Ireland, said he is cautiously optimistic that 2010 sales could be somewhat in excess of the 2009 figures, perhaps reaching a total of approximately 70,000 units.”
