Kia will be showing a design direction for its planned plug-in hybrid, at the Chicago Auto Show next month.
No date for alternative fuel Kia vehicles on this side of the Atlantic has been set, but on-road testing of petrol and diesel hybrid vehicles is due to start in Britain this year.
The company has working prototype fuel cell vehicles operating in California and Korea.
