Toyota recall extended to Europe

Toyota is extending its accelerator pedal recall to Europe, according to overnight reports. As yet, the extent or the models affected have not been established.

The problem, which prompted the recall of 2.3 mllion vehicles and the temporary shutdown of five manufacturing plants in the US, is related to the possibility of accelerator pedals getting caught in floor mats.

The US recall related to eight models, including the Corolla saloon and the Matrix. The latter is similar to the Auris sold in Europe.

In the recall, dealers will be instructed on how to reshape the accelerator pedal for the repair. As replacement parts with the same shape as the modified pedal become available, they will be made available to the dealers for the repair.
