ix35 to replace Tucson in March

Hyundai will bring its new ix35 to Ireland in March at price that will be 'competitive' against key rivals Ford Kuga and VW Tiguan.

The replacement for the Tucson SUV is the first car to from the brand -- now number four in the world rankings -- to use the new design language shown by the Ixonic showcar at Geneva last year.

Initially it will come to Ireland with a 136hp 2.0 diesel and a 6-speed manual gearbox. A 2.0 petrol will also be available later, as will an automatic gearbox.

The car will come in 2WD to Ireland at first, but an AWD will be available later.

And a new 1.7 diesel with 115hp will be available in January 2011. This powerplant is expected to become the most popular in the Irish market.

Prices have not yet been announced, but the specification includes ESP, Bluetooth connectivity, alloys, aircon and cruise control in a long list of features.
