
Volkswagen is going aggressively along the e-drive route with plans to put a fleet of 500 electric Golfs on test on the roads next year.
The company will also launch a hybrid version of its Jetta in the US market in 2012.
VW has also put down a marker that it wants to be the market leader in 'e-mobility' by 2018.
Its immediate commitment to this direction is shown today at the Geneva Motor Show in the reveal of a hybrid variant of its Touareg SUV.

The company has also revealed its new generation Sharan MPV, on a new platform and featuring sliding side doors.
Engines include four TSI and TDI units, including a 1.4 petrol with 150hp. A pair of 2.0 diesels have 140/170hp, both in Band C in Irish tax terms.
