Phone use in US 'causes a fifth of accidents'

A special report by the US-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety suggests that up to 22 percent of all accidents there could be attributed to the use of a phone while driving.

Overall, 40 percent of drivers in the survey said they had used their phones at least a few times while driving in the previous week, and one in five talk on the phone while driving every day.

Some 13 percent of drivers admitted to texting while driving.
