A decision by Ryanair to increase by a third its checked in baggage fee has been criticised by consumer organisations as 'anti-family'.
The hike from €15 to €20 per bag per journey will apply in July and August, the months most people travel with their children.
The Consumers Association of Ireland said it is a 'calculated attack' on families. The UK consumer group 'Which! Holiday' said the move 'penalises' families, and customers should factor in such charges when choosing whom to fly with this summer.
Ryanair said Irish people had been bringing far too much luggage with them when going on holiday and said it was a move to encourage more people to 'travel light'.
