A new land speed record for production cars, of 431km/h, has been set by the Bugatti Veyron supercar.
The record was achieved on Saturday last at VW's Proving Ground near Wolfsburg.
The Veyron 16.4 Super Sport has an output of 1,200hp and a maximum torque of 1,500Nm. The production car has a limited top speed of 415km/h (to protect the tyres), but is otherwise identical to the record car.
The first five Super Sports to come off the production line will constitute a special series of their own, with the same configuration as the landspeed record car.
