Impressive 'Mondello Masters' entry

Mondello Park is saving the best till last as the 2010 Motorcycle Racing season climaxes with the biggest race of the season, the 'Mondello Masters', writes Fergus Brennan.

The two day event on Saturday October 2nd and Sunday October 3rd will feature the big money Masters Race on the Sunday afternoon, with a field of 23 riders already signed-up and more still to confirm their participation, in what will be the most competitive grid in the events history.

The Masters will feature the fastest riders from the Mondello Superbike and Irish Superbike Championships, along with top line riders from road racing and other series. British Supersport competitor Marty Nutt, multiple road race winner Michael Dunlop, Manx GP winner Michael Sweeney and former British champion Paul Barron will join Irish championship contenders such as Marshall Neill, Brian McCormack, David Haire, Glen Irwin, Kirk Jamison, Mark Johston and Gerard Kinghan in the battle for the Masters title and its €5,000 first prize. The one-off Masters race will be contested by up to 32 riders and is scheduled to round out the main action of the weekend following the completion of the Irish championship races earlier in the day.

The programme for the two day event will be filled with interest as the last three rounds of the Mondello Superbike Championship are contested, and these races will also count for the Irish Superbike Championship. In the circuits own series, Marshall Neill and Brian McCormack will continue their season long battle for supremacy. The current score in terms of victories is five - three in favour of Neill who leads the series by fourteen points. David Haire sits in third with a large gap to the leading pair and a similar margin over fourth placed Damien Byrne. Neill has already sown up the ISB title but second to fifth places are still up for grabs with Haire, Jamison, Johnston and McCormack all still in the fight.

The Masters field will continue to grow towards capacity over the coming week and more high profile riders are expected to announce their participation as the event gets closer. For updates on the entry list and other information about the event see www.mondellopark.ie.
