BMW mulls X4

BMW is reported to be planning to plug a gap in its 'X' lineup of crossovers, with an X4 that will be aimed at owners who want a sporty look but in smaller size than the X6 AWD coupe.

The car could arrive in 2014 thanks to new production capacity coming online at the company's US factory in Spartanburg in the USA.

The X4 would target a new small crossover from Porsche, the Cajun, and a planned AWD from Alfa Romeo in the compact segment.
