New 6 Series Convertible soon

BMW's second generation 6 Series Convertible arrives in Ireland on 26 March with a choice of two high-performance petrol engines, writes Brian Byrne. A diesel variant will be available later.

The 2+2 seat soft-top will be priced from €107,690, with a very high level of standard specification that includes leather upholstery, Xenon headlights, the latest BMW navigation system, and an 8-speed automatic gearbox that is arguably the best in the business.

The 3.0 six in the 640i offers 320hp and 450Nm of torque that pumps in at an exceptionally low level of 1,300rpm. The V8 4.4-powered 650i has 407hp on tap and a blistering 600Nm of pulling power.

Efficiency of the engines on the new car are reflected in the 185g/km and 249gm/km figures respectively, with 0-100km/h performances of 5.7/5.0 seconds.

We have driven the car and will report first impressions soon.
