New Focus goes on sale

Ford's new generation Focus has gone on sale in Ireland in a price range between €20,825-€29,425 writes Brian Byrne.

Available initially in hatch and saloon form, a wagon variant is also coming down the line.

The 100,000th Focus sold in Ireland is expected to roll out of a showroom in the next couple of weeks and through its three generations so far the nameplate has raised some €800m in taxes for the Irish state.

At the launch last night Ford Ireland MD Eddie Murphy said the Irish motor trade was seeing a better than expected performance this year, and he said an outcome of 110,000 units was 'not far-fetched'.

He said the fleet business is 'discernibly robust', accounting for part of the uplift, as companies implemented delayed buying decisions.

The new car is available with a number of technologies including active park assist and a system to prevent low-speed crashes in traffic.
