It is now possible to travel from Madrid to Valencia in just 90 minutes on the new AVE high-speed train, writes Brian Byrne.
That's more than twice as fast as the current train journey. Up to 20 trains a day connect both cities, travelling at a speed of up to 205 miles an hour.
The new link makes Valencia easily accessible to anyone arriving from a destination which hasn't got direct flights to the city, or wanting to tour around the whole of Spain.
Average price for a single ticket is €90. Reservations: www.renfe.es.
