Volkswagen's next generation Beetle will go on sale in Europe in October.
The car is revealed at this week's Shanghai Motor Show and has sharper lines than the current car, which has sold more than a million copies since it was launched in 1998. It is wider, lower and longer, and its rear shape particularly reflects the original Beetle rather than the current car's.
The new interior provides a more conventional driving position than that in the previous version, which had been criticised.
VW have also dropped the term 'New' from the name.
