The new Jaguar XF, equipped with a 2.2 litre engine promises to be the most efficient Jaguar ever built.
To prove it, it has just completed an epic journey from the factory in which it was created at Castle Bromwich in Birmingham, to Munich - a distance of 816 miles - on a single tank of diesel.
The car was driven by independent tester David Madgwick, accompanied by navigator Alexander Madgwick. The standard XF passed through four countries taking in a mix of winding country roads, motorways and dense urban traffic. With just over 3,000 miles on the clock at the point of departure, the XF consumed just 64 litres of fuel to average 57mpg.
The XF 2.2 produces 190PS and 332 lbs ft of torque to allow the car accelerate from 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 140mph. The 2.2 emits just 149g/km of C02 (our Band C). The new 2.2 engine is linked to a new eight-speed automatic gearbox with Stop-Start system, the first time such a device has been fitted to a Jaguar.
The new XF 2.2 forms part of the new 2012 model range.
