First Range Rover Evoque rolls off production line

The first Range Rover Evoque vehicle was driven off the line at Land Rover's Halewood manufacturing plant in Liverpool yesterday.

This landmark first car is to be donated to charity.

Worldwide interest in the new car has been huge, with 18,000 customer orders received from people eager to be among the first to own the new Range Rover.

To cope with demand, the workforce at Halewood has doubled to more than 3,000 employees. Seventy-five per cent of production is destined for export to more than 170 countries around the world.

The car has the stunning looks of a concept car, has lightweight technologies and the capability to deliver 50mpg fuel economy. At the same time, it's still a true Range Rover that's agile, nimble, designed to survive in the urban jungle and capable of tackling the toughest climates and terrains as it has Land Rover's legendary all-wheel drive expertise.

It's exactly a year since the car was first revealed at a special celebrity event in Kensington Palace in London which Irish Car+Travel covered from the event (pictured below).
