If the season so far is anything to go by, this weekend's car race event at Mondello Park should be a thriller, writes Fergus Brennan. Sunday's event is the busiest single day Race Meeting of the year and will be run by the Carlow Car Club.
It will include all of the fans' favourites in an 11-race programme and all at new lower admission prices.
The powerful and spectacular single seaters of the Irish Formula Libre series will head the bill along with the similarly exciting Irish Touring Car Championship.
The biggest grid of the event will be provided by the ever popular Formula Vee single seaters, and will be one of only two classes having a single race at this event, the other being Formula Sheane where once again the meteoric progress of Mondello Park 'Become a Racing Driver' competition winner Sean Hynes will be a focal point.
Formula Sheane will qualify and share their race with the Global Lights, with both classes starting 30 second apart on the day. The Globals will race alone for their second outing and other Sports Car Classes on the bill include Strykers and Ginetta Junior Ireland championship, which both race twice.
Qualifying runs from 09:15 with the first of the morning's five races scheduled for 11:00. The main afternnon programme sees the remaining eleven races run between at 14:00 and 17:00.
Admission is €10 for adults for all Mondello Park Car and Motorcycle race events, with under sixteen's admitted free of charge. All admission includes a complimentary event programme. For further information and an event timetable see www.mondellopark.ie.
