New flagship model mulled by Opel

Opel is looking at the possibility of a new flagship car which could be available with hybrid and even fuel cell power options, writes Brian Byrne.

Set above the Insignia, the car—if it happens— would be a crossover between an SUV and an estate, aimed at the premium car segment.

Opel hasn't had a car larger than mid-size since the Omega/Senator range, and its most recent premium foray, the Sigma, wasn't a success.

If given the green light, the new car wouldn't appear until the 2016 model year, because the company is giving priority to new compact and smaller models.
