CX-5 here next spring

Mazda will give its new compact crossover SUV, the CX-5, its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The first of a new generation of Mazda vehicles, it will incorporate a range of the company's SkyActiv fuel-saving technologies, and is slated for Irish launch in the spring of 2012.

The CX-5 is being built on an all-new chassis, and the engines and transmissions are also new. The styling is based on Mazda's new design theme Kodo, or 'Soul of Motion'.

The car has a target CO2 emissions rating of under 120g/km, which will give it an A rating in tax terms in Ireland.

Plans are that it will be progressively introduced to global markets from early 2012. The engine line-up  will include 2.0 petrol, and 2.2 diesel in Standard Power and High Power versions.

The Frankfurt debut will be accompanied by the reveal of a facelifted Mazda3 with claimed lower CO2 emissions, and more sporty and stable driving dynamics.
