BMW will reveal a new 3 Series at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show, as the first element in a complete revamping of the model's range.
In addition to design cues that will bring it closer in looks to the 5 Series, the car will feature new 1.6 petrol engines and upgraded 2.0 diesels. A hybrid powertrain option is also expected.
Coupe and cabriolet variants will appear in a year or so, likely to be named 4 Series to bring them into line with nameplate policies of larger models. A hatchback 5-door variant is also mooted, the first time such a format has been used since the 3 Series 3-door Compact of 1994.
The coupe and cabriolet variants of the new 1 Series will also likely get a 2 Series name in line with the policy.
