Mazda gets special safety award

Mazda has received a special award from the Euro NCAP car safety testing organisation, for a rear vehicle monitoring monitoring system available in the current Mazda3.

The 'Advanced' award was established by ENCAP to recognise car manufacturers who introduce new technologies proven to make driving safer.

The radar based system warns the driver with a proximity indicator light if a vehicle is in the blind spot area, or a vehicle will be approaching this area in the next five seconds from within a zone of up to 50 metres. If the driver switches on the turn signal in the direction of the approaching vehicle, the proximity light blinks rapidly and a beeper sounds to warn the driver not to change lanes. Mazda’s RVM detects all types of vehicles, including motorcycles, and is designed to work in virtually every kind of weather.

The award was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
