The fall-off in new vehicle sales continued last month with car registrations down 35 per cent on September 2010, according to the Society for the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).
In car sales year-to-date, the top selling brand was Toyota (11,278), VW (10,771), Ford (10,236), Renault (8,342), Nissan (6,610). Total industry car sales were 87,182.
Figures show new car sales are up 5 percent on last year while new car sales in September are down 35 percent on last September. Quarter Three this year is up 5 percent on Q3 last year.
Toyota is the top selling make so far this year with 13 percent market share. The Ford Focus is the top selling model with 5 percent market share; 90 percent of cars sold this year are in the lowest C02 emission categories, A & B; 71 percent of cars sold this year are diesel with just 27 percent petrol; silver is the top selling color.
