'1,000 EVs in 2012' says Renault boss

Renault Ireland aims to sell 1,000 electric vehicles in Ireland next year, according to the distributor's MD Eric Basset.

He was speaking at the official launch of the Renault Kangoo ZE mini van last week. The van is priced from €16,400 plus VAT, and takes account of the Government grant of €3,800.

Other Renault EVs will include the Fluence ZE Saloon, the Twizy urban quadricycle and the compact hatch ZOE, all due to appear on Irish roads next year.

In addition to buying the van, owners will have to pay €75 plus VAT per month to lease the battery, over a 48 months period and with a usage limit of 15,000km a year. The Kangoo ZE will be available in three sizes, including 2-seat and 5-seat models. It comes with five years unlimited mileage warranty.
