SEAT plans to be in the thick of the electric and hybrid vehicles business by 2015 are highlighted this week by the announcement of prototype versions of current models which will be used in real-life evaluations in Spain, writes Brian Byrne.
The Altea XL Electric Ecomotive prototype is a pure EV, with zero emissions, while the Leon TwinDrive Ecomotive is a plug-in hybrid.
The cars are to be made available to Spanish governmental institutions in Catalonia and Madrid as a means of collecting information prior to launches of production vehicles in 2015 and 2016.
The Altea prototype has a range of 135kms. The Leon one can go 52kms in EV mode, while emissions are claimed at 39g/km in combined cycle mode.
