The Kia Rio has been voted as the Continental Irish Car of the Year 2012 by the members of the Irish Motoring Writers Association, writes Brian Byrne.
In the first time a Korean built car has ever won the competition, the Rio with 181 points fended off Ford's Focus (176), and Peugeot's 508 (165) for the title.
The Rio also won the Continental Irish Small Car of the Year 2012 category in the awards, presented today at a function in the Conference Centre Dublin. Other category winners were the Ford Focus (Compact Family), Peugeot 508 (Medium/Large Family), Range Rover Evoque (Luxury), and Mercedes-Benz SLK (Performance).
The Continental Irish Van of the Year 2012 is the Volkswagen Crafter.
The awards were presented by Paddy Murphy, General Manager of Continental Ireland.
