Nissan's springtime Leaf pruning
Nissan Ireland have launched a spring promotion that cuts the price of their Leaf electric hatchback by €5,000, writes Brian Byrne.
Bringing the cost of the compact family car down to €25,595 makes the Leaf a much more attractive proposition, especially against fuel prices which have soared in recent months.
Nissan claims average running costs for the Leaf at 1c per kilometre, against up to 10c/km for petrol and diesel equivalents.
Based on an annual driving of 20,000kms, this could save up to €1,800 in the annual running costs for Leaf owners, Nissan says. It also attracts the lowest road tax of €160 and the carmaker suggests maintenance costs are half those of cars using traditional fuels.
The 20,000kms figure would convert into 57kms a day commuting over 350 days, well within the 150kms or so range of the car between charges.
