The company which develops and provides the electric powertrains for Ford's Transit Connect Electric van has filed for bankruptcy protection.
Azure Dynamics filed in Canada, and the move means that production of TCEs in North America and Europe has stopped pending a restructure of the company.
A Ford spokesman said the matter doesn't affect the overall Ford green vehicle strategy.
Although it officially went on sale in Ireland last November, no TCEs have been registered in Ireland.
